qubus
Although the craft of ceramics is a well documented style of art in the Czech Republic, a new genre of the art was born in the year 2000 on the shoulders of partners’ Jekub Berdych and Maxim Velcovsky when they opened Studio Qubus. It is Velcovsky’s vision to turn the form of function on its ear by rendering every day objects in non disposable ways. A prime example is “The Waterproof”, a Wellington boot formed as a porcelain vase - a form designed to keep out water now encases it. All pieces are crafted by Czech masters with amazing attention to detail.
